Director of Human Resources


Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the senior management team, the Director of Human Resources will serve as the head of the Human Resources function and be a strategic business partner to the executive team and physician leaders in leading and creating initiatives, systems and best practices to recruit, develop and retain a patient- and client-centric workforce, and to act as a culture champion across the organization with a goal to support operational advancement of our mission and strategic plans. The Director of Human Resources will be a participative leader, strong coach and problem solver, diplomatic change agent, and expert in understanding organizational dynamics along with helping to create the appropriate structures to address challenges that are inherent in a geographically and functionally diverse team. Serving as an advisor to the CEO, executive and senior management team, the Director of Human Resources will help build and scale the organization, bringing strategic talent skills, expertise in core human resources functions and a deep commitment to our mission of patient care for our clinical organization (Spectrum Healthcare Partners) and service delivery for our management services organization (Spectrum Management Services Company).

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and implements HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the organizations’ missions and strategic visions within each company
  • Develops HR strategies, policies and programs that align with business goals to support the achievement of the overall business strategic and operational objectives delivering innovative and value-driven services
  • Functions as a strategic business advisor to the executive and senior management of the companies and each business unit or specialty group regarding key organizational and management issues
  • Works with the company’s executive management team to establish a sound plan for management succession that corresponds to the strategy and objectives of each organization 
  • Manages, develops and coaches HR team members to ensure the effectiveness and credibility of the HR mission
  • Focus on maintaining a company culture that fosters engagement and supports organizational effectiveness at all levels of each organization. Acts as a key consultant to physicians, management and employees advising on human resource-related issues to include employee relations, engagement and performance management
  • Coaches and advises physicians and managers on complex and non-routine performance feedback to include corrective action, performance improvement plans with an eye toward minimizing the risk of adverse action
  • Consults with legal counsel, gathering information to investigate and respond to employment legal claims
  • Works with the executive and senior management team to drive change management and transitioning of the organization through partnerships, affiliations and mergers/acquisitions
  • Develops comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet the human capital needs of the organizations’ strategic goals
  • Develops and implements comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective for the organizations and maximize shareholder equity
  • Prepares and manages the Human Resources budget, and reviews and negotiates HR contracts and agreements
  • Provides overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, engagement & retention, leadership development, HR systems, compensation and benefits
  • Ensures appropriate employment separation practices are established and maintained to include exit interviews
  • Accountable for mitigating risk and ensuring the organizations operate within legal and ethical boundaries
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive and confidential situations effectively
  • Works closely with management services company leadership in the marketing and delivery of HR services to outside clients
  • Administers special projects or other duties as assigned by the chief executive officer

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university
  • SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification
  • 5-8 years of senior-level human resources leadership experience with increasing responsibility in a complex setting
  • Previous healthcare experience
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact positively and effectively with physician, clinical and non-clinical (administrative and management) staff
  • Confident leader with the highest integrity; team-oriented; leads by example
  • Ability to operate/plan strategically and execute tactically
  • Performance-driven leadership style with demonstrable experience personally driving or influencing successful results
  • Leadership in directing, mentoring, and growing individuals in a team-focused environment
  • Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to effectively present information and speak before groups of physicians, employees, and outside groups
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, ever evolving, team setting and enjoy problem solving with others
  • Strong communicator with all levels of the organization, customers, and vendors
  • Ability to communicate written and verbal ideas in both technical and a user-friendly way
  • Ability to make and communicate well-reasoned decisions, both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with an open, approachable, participative leadership style
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to have crucial conversations with all levels within the organization, including physician leaders
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, mentoring and developing staff members
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
